苦難是人生的常態，沒有人能逃避苦難。基督徒也無法因信仰而脫離苦難，就算他們更敬虔愛主，也不能夠；另一方面，基督徒很難在苦難中把神抽離，我們期望「以馬內利」的信仰能兌現在受苦的處境當中。若我們的信仰不談苦難，信仰會在苦難人生中缺席，難以發揮作用。
本書收錄了44篇短文，主要解釋詩篇中的哀歌、約伯記與傳道書。作者深入地整理釋經所得，讓讀者在前行時得到信仰的承載。作者期望教會能正視哭泣與苦難的課題，讓耶穌基督成為教會苦難神學的中心。教會亦能因此而更適切地與困苦者同行。
高銘謙牧師，英國杜倫大學神學及宗教系哲學博士（舊約），
現任建道神學院副院長（研究）、聖經研究部主任、滕近輝教席副教授，
亦是《爾道自建》主編及中華宣道會友愛堂義務牧師。高博士著作漸豐，
其中《釋經釋出火》、《釋經要釋彩》和《釋經釋出禍》榮獲第八屆金書獎「最佳編輯」（系列），
另《釋經要釋喊》榮獲第九屆金書獎最佳作者（非學術）。
