很多 MBA 課程以經濟學及心理學角度去分析消費者行為。其中最出名的理論應是端杯 (Dupuit) 的消費者剩餘理論。本書的第一章便否定了這理論：若邊際效用大於價格是標準，那人們應什麼都不消費。另一個出名的消費理論學者是凱因斯，他認為多消費能刺激經濟，本書指出那是偃苗助長。要消費便必須先有儲蓄，但經濟或心理學理論推出來的利率儲蓄函數卻可能是負的。此外，本書更指出付款時機及其它效用消費理論的矛盾。最後，本書導出正確的消費及儲蓄理論。
